BDO Canada Extends Expertise with Cyber Security Certification Initiative

In response to the increasing demand for robust cyber security measures among Canadian businesses, BDO Canada has announced an initiative aimed at enhancing its cyber security consulting capabilities. The firm is introducing a comprehensive program that focuses on providing certification in cyber security best practices tailored for mid-market companies across the country.

As cyber threats continue to evolve in complexity and scale, Canadian organizations are recognizing the importance of fortifying their defenses against potential breaches. BDO Canada, a prominent mid-market accounting and consulting firm, is stepping up to meet this pressing need. The newly established cyber security certification program will equip businesses with the knowledge and tools necessary to protect their sensitive information and maintain compliance with industry regulations.

"With the rapid digitization of business operations, cyber security is no longer an afterthought; it’s a fundamental aspect of business strategy," said Ahmed Ovais, newly appointed partner in BDO’s consulting practice in Toronto. "Our certification program will provide organizations with the skills to not only understand the cyber landscape but also implement effective risk management strategies."

The program will be led by a team of experts with extensive experience in cyber security, risk management, and compliance. Participants can expect a curriculum that includes key topics such as risk assessment, security policy development, incident response planning, and understanding the regulatory landscape. In addition, the certification will address emerging threats such as ransomware and data breaches, providing businesses with crucial insight into preventive measures.

The initiative comes at a time when Canadian businesses are facing heightened scrutiny over their data protection practices. Recent reports indicate that a significant number of organizations lack adequate cyber security measures, leaving them vulnerable to attacks that can result in severe financial and reputational damage.

"Cyber security is a shared responsibility, and our mission is to empower businesses to take proactive steps in securing their digital environments," said Julien Lassonde, partner in BDO’s scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) and government incentives practice. "The certification program is not just an educational opportunity; it’s an essential investment in the future of Canadian companies."

As BDO Canada continues to expand its service offerings, this cyber security certification initiative marks a significant milestone in the firm’s commitment to providing clients with comprehensive solutions that address their unique challenges. With 508 partners and over 5,000 staff across 95 offices nationwide, BDO is well-positioned to serve the diverse needs of mid-market businesses striving for excellence in security.

In addition to the cyber security certification program, BDO Canada remains focused on engaging with government bodies to ensure that businesses are aware of available incentives and funding programs to support their cyber security investments. With the right combination of expertise, resources, and government support, Canadian companies can better navigate the complexities of cyber security and emerge stronger against future threats.

As the landscape of cyber threats continues to evolve, BDO Canada aims to lead the charge in developing a more secure business environment for all Canadians. The firm looks forward to the launch of its cyber security certification program and is committed to helping businesses thrive in a digital world.
